If you have ever had a chance to be at Gwango during the festive season in December, then you already know that it does feel a little different than the other times of the year. The forest seems quieter, the air is lighter and the evenings carry a sense of anticipation. It is a time when guests gather a little closer and the whole place feels like it is preparing for something warm and cheerful. This year, Gwango has put together a lineup that will bring people together in a heartfelt way. It’s going to be a mix of support for our community, celebration, good food and a spirit of giving that will make this Christmas brighter for those who need it most. Here are some of the experiences waiting for guests this year:
Season of Giving
From 15 November to 20 December, Gwango is collecting food donations for elderly community members and families who could use a little help during this time. Guests, neighbours and friends are encouraged to bring non-perishable items or purchase vouchers for food hampers that will be delivered before Christmas. These contributions always go a long way and they give Gwango the opportunity to bring comfort and dignity to people who are part of this community.
Gifts can be dropped off at Gwango Heritage Resort in Hwange or at Gwango Tamarillo Estate in Burnside, Bulawayo.
Secret Santa Gift Exchange
Add a touch of surprise to your Christmas Eve this year! On 24 December from 5pm to 7:30pm, Gwango will be hosting a Secret Santa gift exchange for guests and local visitors. If you want to participate and share in the laughter, surprises and the simple joys of giving, you will have to bring a wrapped gift valued at US$15 or more. This will be a fun and simple way to experience the excitement of Christmas Eve, right before the evening dinner begins.
Christmas Eve 3-Course Dinner
After Secret Santa, guests at Gwango will be spoiled from 7:30pm to 9:30pm with an elegant three-course dinner, featuring locally inspired dishes and festive favorites. You will be welcomed with a complimentary glass of eggnog before settling in for a joyful evening of holiday dining, festive music and conversations… This is the perfect way to embrace the magic of the season in true Gwango style.
The cost is US$20 per guest (US$10 for kids 6-12)
Christmas Day Buffet Brunch + Santa Surprise
On Christmas Day, from 11:30am to 2pm, celebrate Christmas with a generous buffet brunch. The tables will be filled with holiday roasts, seasonal sides and sweet treats. It is going to be a relaxed and cheerful afternoon, made even more special by a Santa surprise for the little ones.
The cost is US$26 per guest (US$13 for kids 6-12)
New Year’s Eve Party for Adults
On 31 December, ring in 2026 at Gwango! Enjoy a 4-course dinner at the exclusive New Year’s Eve Party for adults 21 and over. The evening will begin at 8pm all the way to midnight. Expect good music, dancing and a festive atmosphere culminating with a midnight toast as we welcome a brand-new year.
The cost is US$45 per guest.
New Year’s Eve Kids’ Slumber Party
Children will have their own magical New Year’s Eve celebration from 8pm until midnight. The Kids’ Slumber Party is for ages 2-15 and it will include games, movies, kid-friendly treats, arts & crafts, storytelling and a cheerful countdown just for them. This is a safe, supervised, adventure-filled night, where kids can have just as much fun as their parents. It’s the perfect way for the little ones to celebrate the new year and make new friends, while parents enjoy an evening knowing the children are in great hands.
