Matobo National Park
A world heritage site situated a short distance from Bulawayo, this is Zimbabwe's oldest National Park. One of it’s sublime features is the Matopo Hills a series of granite kopjes (rock formations) wooded valleys formed over 2 billion years ago.

Forty thousand years ago the caves and crevices carved out of these rocks became home to Zimbabwe’s earliest inhabitants, the “San”. Twenty thousand years later “San” artists began painting on the walls of caves and rock shelters, using special pigments and natural minerals that have survived the effects of climate and time.

An addition area for exploration is World’s view, a scenic viewpoint and the burial site of Cecil John Rhodes. There is also wildlife at Matobo including leopards, black rhino, white rhino and numerous antelopes. Matobo National Park also overlooks Maleme Dam where some excellent picnic spots can be found.

Khami Ruins
This is a series of terraced historical stone ruins, the largest of which is comprises of three, tiered platforms, the home of the King and his family. An imposing front façade marks the main entrance.

Visitors are able to wander around the site on several paths taking in the unique cultural and natural heritage. It makes a perfect day out for visitors looking to gain a sense of Zimbabwean history.

Cross Ruin with its mysterious stone Dominican Cross, and the Northern Platform once used to process gold.

Precipice Ruin was a ritual centre that has the longest decorated stone wall of its kind.

Passage Ruin consists of two adjoining semicircular platforms accessed by a narrow passageway. Like many of the other smaller platforms, it is likely that it was once occupied by one of the elite officials of the state.

Natural History Museum
The Natural Museum of Zimbabwe located in the Centenary Park was built in 1962, and in 1982 all the natural science collections were moved here and it was renamed the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe.

With its stunning displays and valuable research collections it is regarded as the best museum in Southern Africa and ranked fourth in size among the museums of Africa. It is an impressive circular building with nine public display galleries, a lecture hall with a seating capacity of 120 people, a cafeteria, and eight research departments with substantial study collections and ongoing research in the following disciplines: Arachnology and invertebrates, Entomology, Ornithology, Mammology, Herpetology, Ichthyology, Paleontology and Geology, and Archaeology.

Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage
It’s always a beautiful experience when you visit Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage. Located 27km from the city center along the Gwanda Road, it is a haven of wild animals which have little hope for survival in the wild. Chipangali is home to lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, serval, tortoises, terrapins, crocodiles, birds of prey, a variety of antelopes and bush pigs. A natural history interpretation centre is on site with a tea room. You can end your day by having a braai or picnic on site.

Visitors are allowed to leave their cars in Tshabalala and walk through the wilderness and experience the sights and sounds on foot. Driving and cycling is also permitted and horse rides can be arranged.
