They come unannounced. No reservations, no luggage... just curiosity and a home they carry on their backs.
Gwango Tamarillo Estate has been receiving some interesting visitors lately. And we don’t just mean the two-legged kind. With the rains still lingering and the dry season slowly setting in, we’ve noticed more and more wildlife “dropping by” to check out what we’ve been up to.
One in particular stole the show: the Panther Agate Snail. You don’t forget it once you’ve seen it... large, earthy brown, with faint markings and a shell that looks custom-designed. And... they’re big. Not just in size, but in personality too. They move slowly but purposefully, gliding on the ground like they’re doing their own private tour. No need for directions. No need for bookings. Just a quiet inspection of the grounds: are the trees shady enough? Is the soil soft enough? Does the place feel right?
…and they aren’t the only ones. Tamarillo has seen a growing parade of butterflies, curious birds, silent little lizards and even a mongoose or two making rounds. It’s seems as if the natural world has noticed something stirring and wants to weigh in before the humans arrive in numbers.
We’ve been taking it as a compliment.
After all, it’s one thing to design a place with people in mind... it’s another to find that nature approves. These small encounters are reminding us that when you build with care and intention like we do, nature will slowly make itself at home. Which is what we always hope for: a space where people and wildlife feel equally welcome.
If you happen to be lounging at your private veranda, or enjoying the sun poolside with a cool drink in hand and spot someone slinking, fluttering or gliding past... don’t worry. They’re not lost. They’re just early arrivals.
And some of them, like the Panther Agate Snail, come with their own accommodation. So no need to worry about these early arrivals booking your favorite room before you get here.
Until next time,
The Gwango Team
