The early rain

The early rain

It finally happened! After weeks of dry, dusty days, the skies above Gwango have gifted us with the first rains of the season - a bit earlier than usual, but nature here is always full of surprises. The moment those raindrops hit the ground, it was as if the entire land let out a deep, grateful sigh. The dry, cracked earth eagerly soaked it all up and even the teak trees, which had been standing so still in the heat, began swaying with renewed energy - they had been waiting for this very moment.

You know that feeling when the air changes after rain - that universal sense of freshness? The dust that seemed to cling to everything finally settled, replaced by the unmistakable, earthy scent of wet soil. It’s the kind of smell that stops you in your tracks, makes you close your eyes and just breathe it in. And it wasn’t just us who noticed. The birds were singing louder than we’ve heard in weeks and the herds also began to make their way to the waterholes, as if they knew the land was about to transform.

With this early rain, we’re left wondering - did the rainy season arrive ahead of schedule, or is Mother Nature just teasing us with a little preview before the real show begins? It’s too soon to tell if this is the start of something bigger or just a refreshing pause in the dry spell. Either way, Gwango is buzzing with anticipation and we’re all waiting to see what she has in store next. For now, it’s a quick glimpse of the green to come, with wildflowers on the brink and the grass ready to shoot up. Gwango’s getting ready for the main event and we’re just here, soaking it all in.

So, if you’re not here yet, what are you waiting for? This is the time to experience Gwango as it comes alive after a long, dry stretch. Nature is putting on her best performance and you’re invited to be front and centre for the show.
