Stone pathways at Gwango Tamarillo Estate

Stone pathways at Gwango Tamarillo Estate

When Gwango Tamarillo Estate first opened, the focus was naturally on the larger pieces - restoring the buildings, preparing the guest rooms, establishing the gardens, creating the spaces that guests would use every day, and even restoring the game drive vehicle that was literally custom built on site at Gwango! A huge task that, as you’ll remember, required much effort involving searching for an original Toyota vehicle and then transforming it into a custom safari vehicle. Once those main things were in place, attention began to shift towards the smaller details. The things that may not stand out initially, but immediately improve how the estate feels and functions.

One of the latest additions at Tamarillo has been the installation of new stone pathways throughout the estate. While pathways may seem like a small detail in the grand scheme of things, they have had a huge impact on how guests experience the estate. Not only do they act as a guide from one area to another, they are creating a sense of flow and encouraging guests to slow down and take in their surroundings.

At Tamarillo, the new stone pathways now weave through sections of the gardens, linking guest areas and creating easier access throughout the property. They bring a sense of structure while still fitting naturally into the landscape that has been developing around them over the past year.

The addition also comes at a time when the gardens themselves are continuing to mature. Trees are growing, the pond area is attracting more birdlife and the green spaces are becoming more established. The pathways help tie all of these different elements together and make it easier for guests to enjoy them.

Since opening, each improvement has built upon the last. A bridge over the pond, a library, a poolside bar, expanded gardens, a dedicated activity vehicle and now pathways that connect it all together. None of these additions happened all at once. They have come gradually, allowing the property to grow into itself while still retaining the character that makes it different from our other Gwango destinations.

The pathways may not be the first thing guests notice when they arrive, but they are likely to be one of the things they will end up using every day during their stay. These kinds of additions that make Gwango spaces more welcoming and a little easier to explore are the ones we cherish most. For us, this is another small step in the ongoing story of Gwango Tamarillo Estate and we look forward to sharing many more as the property continues to take shape.
