We are counting down the weeks to the official opening of our newest lodge in Bulawayo. Gwango Tamarillo Estate has literally been a labour of love. Once an abandoned property, for over a decade (or rather, Elisabeth’s neglected childhood home) - it’s now a beautifully restored retreat for tourists and business travellers stopping over in Bulawayo.
Located in the southwest part of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo is a short 30-minute drive from the fabled balancing rocks of Matobo National Park, home to the Matobo Hills rock formations (formed over 2 billion years ago) and Stone Age cave art. Matobo National Park is the country’s oldest national parks, it is also one of the few places where you can still see the almost extinct rhinos and a host of other wildlife and birdlife such as black eagles.
Also close by is Tshabalala Game Sanctuary where zebra and impala can be seen, and west of Bulawayo, travellers with an interest in historic monuments can visit the 15th-century Khami ruins. Bulawayo is also home to one of the most impressive Natural History Museums on the African continent.
Gwango Tamarillo Estate will offer guests a choice of thoughtfully designed rooms to ensure guests comfort. The multi-storey suburban lodge offers first-floor and ground-floor rooms that fuse Gwango’s signature rustic style with contemporary design and layers of comfort. The lovely rooms feature comfortable twin or queen-size beds with premium bedding and luxury private bathrooms with designer toiletries.
Free Wi-Fi is provided, and the rooms open to a patio or balcony. Meals are served in the dining area and guests can relax in the library or next to the inviting outdoor pool. The lodge offers lovely gardens, a terrace lounge, tour information, and free parking.
Conference services and events can also be accommodated at the new property. There is a private boardroom for up to 8 people (Jacaranda Room) or a larger conference space that can seat up to 240 guests.
