We know that planning a holiday can be overwhelming! When traveling to Zimbabwe, the more you know before you travel – the more you’ll get out of your trip. So, we thought it would be helpful if we shared some of the most common questions we’re asked by guests who've visited Gwango.  These will eventually be added to a new FAQ page on our websites.

Can you suggest activities for our time at Gwango?
Absolutely!  We’re happy to prepare a proposed itinerary that aligns with your interests.  Simply send us your travel dates and we’ll help plan all of the details for your time here.

Are there any health and age restrictions?
When visiting Gwango, you need to be reasonably healthy and fit, however, age is not necessarily a hindrance.  Young children are usually excluded from walking safaris at our wild camp in Hwange and some of our camps have a minimum age requirement. Please see the booking conditions for your preferred room type.

Is it safe to visit Zimbabwe?
Despite much of what you might hear, Zimbabwe is one of the safest countries in Africa!  The people here are peace loving, friendly and helpful.  Still, you should take care as you would when travelling anywhere else in the world. Look after your belongings, don’t walk around late at night in city streets and don’t travel with valuables.

If you choose to visit our Hwange properties, the behaviour of wildlife is always unpredictable. There are no fences between Gwango and Hwange National Park, and wildlife moves freely through out camps.  You will always be under the care of our attentive staff and guides.  Your safety is our number one priority

What is the best time to travel to Gwango?
It’s always a good time to visit - the timing depends on your interests. The dry winter season (April to October) is when the wildlife congregates around the water holes.  You therefore are likely to see more wildlife.  The green summer season (November to March) is when game viewing might be reduced due to the thicker vegetation, but many species have new young. The green season can be best for birding and it’s also when we hear and see more insects and reptiles.

What about insurance?
As a condition of booking your visit to Gwango, we require that you have adequate trip cancellation, emergency medical and repatriation insurance in place.  We do not arrange this insurance for you.

What are the passport and entry requirements?
You will need a valid passport (with at least six months still unexpired), together with an entry visa (which you might be able to obtain on arrival, depending on your country of origin). Check locally since requirements can change without notice. 

How do I make a reservation?

What language is spoken?
There are several languages and local dialects spoken in Zimbabwe, however English is one of the most commonly spoken languages.

Can I make reservations for game drives and activities upon arrival at Gwango?
Yes, you can reserve activities while you are here, but we cannot guarantee that the vehicles and space will be available if you do not book in advance.

Is it recommended for us to use malaria prophylaxis in your area?
We don’t generally offer medical advice.  However, we will share that many guests that take the recommended medications feel miserable due to side effects!

We recommend taking precautions - reduce the chances of being bitten by mosquitos and other insects by covering up with long sleeves and long trousers after sunset.  We also recommend using a good insect repellent, especially during the green season. Mosquito nets are also provided in your rooms.

How much luggage should I bring?

Try to keep your baggage to a minimum.  Vehicle transfers may not allow a large amount of baggage.  Laundry service is provided at most Gwango properties.
