Grey crown cranes are back at Gwango

We look forward to the rains each year, for a variety of reasons.  Most importantly we need the water for the elephants, but along with that comes the magnificent transformation of the forest.

Birds flourish this time of year, and in particular, we look forward to seeing the return of certain birds we’ve grown accustomed to seeing.  The grey crown cranes are probably my favourite.  We spend hours watching them bowing and dancing, especially when breeding.  Last year our resident couple (they mate for life) left with 3 young, and this month, we are happy to see that they returned with their offspring.  We are not certain if the young cranes will stick around.
